Qudra 2 Programme

"Qudra 2 – Resilience for refugees, IDPs, returnees and host communities in response to the protracted Syrian and Iraqi crises" is a regional action co-financed by the EU Regional Trust Fund in Response to the Syrian Crisis, the EU Madad Fund, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) seeking to strengthen resilience for Syrian refugees, IDPs, returnees and host communities in response to the protracted Syrian and Iraqi crises.

Qudra – an Arabic word meaning ‘strength’, ‘ability’ or ‘resilience’. The programme is jointly implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, Expertise France, Spanish Agency for International Development (AECID), Hungarian Interchurch Aid (HIA) and Belgium Development Agency (Enabel) in programme partner countries of Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey. All five agencies, by pooling their experience and resources, endeavour to achieve a coherent concept and implementation in order to contribute to a shared European solution to the ongoing refugee crisis in the region.

University students support public schools in Jordan with sports, art and tutoring

Qudra cooperated with programmes such as GIZ Sport for Development and Artolution to support the implementation of extracurricular activities and help teachers. To make this approach more sustainable, Qudra is connecting Jordanian universities with public schools. University students now offer different activities such as tutoring Arabic, English, math and science, as well as teaching art, music, sport and theatre on a voluntary basis as part of community service.

Qudra participates in the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace

Qudra is committed to sports as an instrument to foster peace and social inclusion – especially in the context of Syrian refugees finding new homes in neighbouring countries. This is why, sport is taught as an extracurricular activity in Qudra schools in Jordan and Lebanon.

The 35 chosen participants along with local, national and international NGOs working with communities in Lebanon attended the EU Madad Lab III Kick-Off event at Beirut Digital District on April 4th, 2019.

Qudra rehabilitates 26 public schools in Jordan

Bridging the Gap in Lebanon

Bridging gaps between cultures and languages with ease and fun, hardly another medium can match the potential sports has. That is why Qudra is promoting sport as an extracurricular activity to bring together students from both, host and refugee communities.

On Wednesday, October 10th, 2018 Dr. Christiane Gaehtgens, Head of Lebanon Programme GIZ, welcomed a delegation of partners from the Qudra Programme in Beirut, Lebanon.

Social stability strikes up in Lebanon!

Following an introductory session with the Lebanese Ministry of Social Affairs (MoSA) on 13 August 2018, the Qudra Programme is ready to act to strengthen the social stability between refugees, IDPs and host communities in Lebanon. "One Ball" to unite communities in Lebanon!

Under the patronage of H.E. Minister of Education and Higher Education, Mr. Marwan Hamadeh, and in the presence of H.E. German Ambassador to Lebanon, Mr. Martin Huth, representative of the European Union delegation in Lebanon, Mr. Rein Nieland, representative of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, Ms. Sonia Khoury, and representatives from the GIZ and the Spirit of Football organization, a celebration was held at the Mohammed Shamel public school in Tariq El Jdideh under the slogan ‘One Ball, One World’.

Memorandum of Understanding between Republic of Turkey and the Qudra Programme signed

On 23 May 2018, the Government of Turkey, represented by the Prime Ministry, conducted the signing ceremony for the Memorandum of Understanding for Cooperation with Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH for the Qudra Programme (Resilience for Syrian refugees, IDPs and host communities in response to the Syrian and Iraqi crises) which is a regional action co-financed by the EU Regional Trust Fund/MADAD) and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

Qudra welcomes Hungarian Interchurch Aid (HIA) as a new Implementing Partner

We are pleased to introduce our new implementing partner Hungarian Interchurch Aid (Ökumenikus Segélyszervezet/ HIA). HIA will join Qudra’s implementation work in KRI, supporting the government authorities in strengthening livelihoods and thus fostering resilience of host communities and refugees as well as IDPs.

Lebanon Getting Started with 2nd Round of EU Madad Innovation Labs

The EU Madad Innovation Labs (“Labs”) are part of a growing number of innovation labs, bringing together people from diverse backgrounds to jointly learn and develop innovative solutions to local challenges in the context of the Syrian and Iraqi crises. On this aim, the first Stakeholder Workshop of EU Madad Innovation Labs II on Youth and Digital Innovation as part of the Qudra Programme took place on 15 March 2018 in Beirut, Lebanon.

Signing ceremony for new projects in Sulaymaniyah, KRI

Under Module SO4 – Supporting Local Administrations, Qudra Programme went from strength to strength in North Iraq by signing 6 new projects worth over 250.000 € to improve living conditions in Sulaymaniyah.

Rudolf Rogg visited school in Gaziantep, Turkey

On February 9th, Mr. Rudolf Rogg, Head of GIZ MENA Division, joined a badminton session for the students of Mehmet Çolakoğlu Primary School in Gaziantep, Turkey. The school is one of the state schools with limited resources hosting enamours numbers of Syrian students where Qudra Programme is working.
