Women Leading the Change - Building an equal future

COVID-19 pandemic has affected women and men in different ways. Women bear the burden of domestic responsibilities and care obligations. They also face an increased risk of experiencing gender-based violence, losing livelihoods and access to essential services due to the restrictions enforced to combat the spread of COVID-19.

The UN defined the theme of this year's International Women's Day as "Women in leadership: Achieving an equal future in a COVID-19 world".

In this context, the Qudra 2 programme dedicated the month of March to celebrate women's achievements; - women who have faced challenges, accepted them and overcame them. We celebrate their acts of courage and hope they will continue to inspire others to take action!

We asked 12 women from Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, and Turkey the same two questions:

  1. As a woman, what is the biggest challenge you faced during the COVID-19 crisis?
  2. In one sentence, what can we do to create a more equal future in the post-COVID-19 world?

Listening to their stories, you will see that women face many common challenges. The main challenge is balancing responsibilities at home and those at work while still dealing with the consequences of COVID-19 restrictions.
